Updates

This page is really here for my personal record keeping.  The website has ballooned into an beast unwieldy for a single person to handle, and I feel there is a need to track its growth, regressions, and metamorphosis.  But if you are a frequent visitor, this page will help you to pinpoint newly-added material, corrections, and organizational changes.  I apologize for previous (and present) misidentifications, and thank everyone who took the time to submit corrections.

July 30, 2011--Season 6 (2010) updates completed

The rebuild has now been completed.  You will find that many of the images have been replaced with material from the 2010 collection season.  I have made too many updates to note them all individually.  Instead, only newly-added genera are listed below.  The 2010 collection season was my most ambitious effort to date.  I collected nearly 100 samples from many new locations and habitats.  Reposting of video clips will have to come at a later time.

• For algae, I have added Tetmemorus, Draparnaldia, Dispora, Gonium, Pleodorina, Chromulina, Chrysostephanosphaera, Gomphoneis, Eutreptia, Merotrichia, Geminella, Chloridella, Stipitococcus, Neonema, Chrysocapsa, Stichogloea, Trichodesmium.
• For protozoans, I have added Arcella, Cephalothamnium, Cochliopodium, Codosiga, Diplosigopsis, Peranema, Discophrys, Strobilidium, Petalomonas, Hyalosphenia, Nebela, Nuclearia, Vaginicola, Trochilia, Diplophrys.

WOW! It has been three years since I collected algae, but I am back in action.  This update consists of long-overdue housekeeping.  The next update will consist of a complete rebuilding of the website from scratch (with CSS for those familiar with web design).  I have already made significant process to that end, but as you can imagine, it will demand many late nights.  New material will follow sometime after that, and hopefully all will be posted by early 2011.

• As you noticed, links to the galleries on the home page have been redesigned--now reflecting phylogenetic relationships and integrating the few protozoans with the algae.
• I reorganized the specimens within gallery pages to conform to current classification schemes.  Check the Index of Genera if your favorites have gone missing.
• I reorganized and updated the informational pages for collection information, microscopy, etc.
• I corrected the following identifications, mostly based on submitted comments (THANKS!).  I changed one Ankistrodesmus to Monoraphium, all Crucigenia to Crucigeniella, all Rhizoclonium to Cladophora, all Uroglena to Uroglenopsis, one Uroglenopsis to Eusphaerella, Chlorellidiopsis to Chrysosphaera, several members of Scenedesmus to Desmodesmus, Zoochlorella to Chlorella, two Pandorina to Yamagishiella, all Stipitococcus to Chrysopyxis.
• I subdivided the large pages of Cyanobacteria, Diatoms, Chlorophyceans, and Charophyceans for quicker loading.
• I removed many of the low-quality images in anticipation of posting better-quality replacements.
